Young Australian dancer Caitlin Marks has catapulted to the top of New York City’s performance scene after making it to the final round of the Radio City Rockettes audition.
Caitlin auditioned for the Radio City Rockettes—an infamous American dance company dating back to the 1920s. Due to the sheer competitive nature of any dancer desiring to be part of the kick line, it’s a phenomenal achievement for Caitlin who is now awaiting an outcome of her audition.
“It usually takes people a few years of auditioning to even make it past the first round, so even if I don’t get chosen, I’m very grateful that on my first time auditioning, I was able to make it this far,” Caitlin Marks said.
“The audition process was very intense and lasted three days. We learnt multiple combinations and had to come back each day with the choreography down, so that we could move on. All of the women in the room at the end of the audition were so talented and I’m honoured I got to audition with them all.”
Caitlin most recently performed at the Imperial Theatre for YouTube and Google with world renowned choreographer Kyle Hanagami, dancing alongside Patrick Starrr and Jon Batiste.
“Working with Kyle Hanagami after watching and following him for years was very surreal! Also, it was amazing getting to work on the job with some of the most talented artists in New York and to know that I am in that pool of dancers…is crazy,” said Caitlin.
Melbourne born and raised, Caitlin fell in love with dancing when she attended her local dance studio, Dance House (now Dream Academy). At age 16, she moved to Calgary to train at Alberta Ballet School for a year before making New York City her home. Caitlin studied for four years at Joffrey Ballet School in theJazz and Contemporary four-year program. After graduating in 2021, she has been busy gathering impressive credits to her name.
Caitlin signed with MSA Agency after glowing recommendations from a teacher who was also on their talent books. Her goals with her agent is to build a consistent career, which includes Broadway in the near future.
“MSA has been my dream agency since my first trip to the United States when I was nine, so this all felt very surreal,” said Caitlin.
While residing in New York City, Caitlin has being a member of world renowned choreographer Candace Brown’s first dance company, Soul Project Dance Company. Candace Brown has danced for the likes of Janet Jackson and Beyonce and is most known for her unmatched musicality and movement.
“Having the privilege to work with her and perform her art on a stage—with some of the best dancers in New York—was incredible.”
Caitlin has also performed in several music videos in New York, including Lil Uzi’s ‘Demon High’ and Third Eye Blind’s ‘Goodbye to the Days of Ladies and Gentlemen’.
Caitlin’s career first began when she was only 11 years old and living in Melbourne. She was cast in the role of Annie in Annie the Musical, which performed at the Regent Theatre before travelling to Auckland to play Jane Banks in Disney’s Mary Poppins.
“That year is still a huge highlight of my life, as it was my first work and kicked off my career.”
